South Yorkton
Neighbourhood Guide
Not too old, not too new. This neighbourhood in Yorkton is in the sweet spot of maturity, and is mainly residential. From Independent Street all the way South to the Queen Street Bypass, and from Gladstone Avenue South to Highway #9, these are the basic borders of South Yorkton. The Yorkton Cemetery sits adjacent to Highway #9 South.
Parks
- Patrick Park
Also known as Patrick Park Disc Golf Course. This park has a variety of trees that give players a challenge for all nine holes. Can be played alone, or in conjunction with the Rodney Ridge Course located in Peaker Park for a full 18 hole course.
- Peaker Park and Rodney Ridge
Peaker Park is named for the street beside it, Peaker Avenue. There is a fair sized hill on the South side of the park, commonly known as Rodney Ridge. The bottom of the hill is bowl shaped, making Rodney Ridge a popular tobogganing spot in Winter, and a terrific disc golf course in the warmer months.
- Jubilee Park
This park is used both recreationally and competitively for Baseball, Softball and Slo-Pitch. There are 4 baseball diamonds in total here.
- Logan Green
Also known as Logan Flats. This large green space is used for a variety of things, including outdoor Soccer, a greenspace / natural backdrop for photographers and as a garden - there is a large plot dedicated for residents to grow their own food! In addition, the Logan Green Pathway, an offshoot of the Great Trail (formerly known as the TransCanada Trail) is located in this area. It's a beginner level trail, twisting and winding its way around the area for 6 Kilometers. A trout pond lays just off of the path, perfect for families to introduce their kids to the joys of fishing.
- Pathways
Winchester Pathway starts in the Silver Heights Park (located in Silver Heights) and connects to Patrick Park. There's enough room for all walkers, joggers, bikers, roller bladers, skateboarders and those in wheelchairs. It is 0.68 Kilometers long.
Brodie Pathway begins on Brodie Avenue, right off of Broadway Street West (located in Central Yorkton). It extends all the way to Patrick Park, and is 1.03 Kilometers long.
Schools
Yorkdale Central School
A Pre Kindergarten to Grade 8 public elementary school, popularly used by rural families and families living in this neighbourhood. The bus system for Yorkdale extends quite a distance, even allowing families as far South as Goodeve, Sk to send their children to school. Yorkdale is the hub for the Practical and Applied Arts (PAA) program for Grade 7 and 8 students throughout the Good Spirit School Division.
