North Yorkton
Neighbourhood Guide
Originally housing the affluent, Yorkton's North neighbourhood has a longer history than most. In the early days of the city's founding, this neighbourhood was small, but featured some of Yorkton's largest homes (belonging to doctors and businessmen). Today, you can see these heritage homes mixed in with war-time houses, apartments, condos, split-levels, bi-levels, bungalows, and low-income designated 4-plexes. As a result, people from every socio-economic class live here together. The straightforward North-South direction of most of the streets makes navigation a breeze, especially for newcomers.
Parks
- Waterloo Park
This park is hidden behind the houses of Waterloo Road and Wellington Park Road. It features a large green space, as well as a children's playground.
- Ukrainian Pioneer Park & Drake Field
There's a variety of things to do here, including playing at the spray park, shooting hoops in the Basketball court, using the outdoor rink, and playing Soccer or Lacrosse on the designated field.
- Jackson Park
Directly North of the Yorkton's iconic Court House is Jackson Park. This space has a playground, sun shelter and walking paths for everyone to enjoy.
- Shaw Park
This park is located two blocks Northeast of the Godfrey Dean Cultural Centre. At the heart of it stands a centennial gateway sculpture in weathered steel. The interactive spiral structure connects the sun to significant Yorkton features. The rest of the park is an open green space sheltered by Pine trees.
Pathways
- Dracup Pathway
This pathway runs down the length of Dracup Avenue, parallel. It connects with the businesses on Broadway Street East, where a connector joins this pathway with the Highway #10 Pathway. An unpaved portion bisecting this pathway (at the roundabout) connects it to the Mayhew Pathway. There is a retention pond to walk through and/or around, which makes for nice scenery.
