Silver Heights

Neighbourhood Guide

Quiet but friendly, Silver Heights is a great place to grow up or grow old! There are no commercial buildings in this neighbourhood, which means traffic is strictly residential. Since its development in the late 90's / early 2000's, Silver Heights has attracted many young families. The Queen Street City Bypass on the South side and Gladstone Avenue South on the East side give residents direct routes both into and around Yorkton. The hospital (Yorkton Regional Health Centre), nursing home (Yorkton & District Nursing Home), and Mental Health Unit sit to the immediate North - making Silver Heights a preferred neighbourhood for retirees. A large green space separates this neighbourhood from the aforementioned facilities.

Schools

There are no schools located directly in the neighbourhood, but Yorkdale Central Elementary School, St. Mary's Elementary School, Columbia Elementary School and St. Paul's Elementary School are all within walking distance.

Parks

  • Silver Heights Park

The Silver Heights Park is located at the core of the neighbourhood. An outdoor rink serves as a basketball court for most of the year, and a skating/hockey rink in the winter months. Beside the rink is the playground, which was updated in 2010. A splash area lays on the Northern side of the park, making the Silver Heights Park one of the two splash parks in Yorkton. In the winter, the splash area is flooded and used as a Crokicurl (combination sport of crokinole and curling) rink. This is also one of the two Crokicurl rinks in Yorkton.

Pathways

  • Winchester Pathway

Winchester Pathway starts in the Silver Heights Park and connects to Patrick Park (located in South Yorkton). There's enough room for all walkers, joggers, bikers, roller bladers, skateboarders and those in wheelchairs. It is 0.68 Kilometers long.
